New school board member Rodolfo Lopez raised the issue of the Student Activity Center again at Wednesday’s board meeting. Lopez, who now sits as board president after debunking Lupita Fuentes, made a passionate plea to the board to give the tax payer what was promised to them. Un gran lleno registró el ITC Center la noche del jueves durante la entrega de becas estudiantiles para la generación 2009 que se prepara para graduar de High School.
Los alumnos acudieron a la ceremonia acompañados de sus familiares que con mucho orgullo apreciaron como sus hijos recibieron estímulos económicos para continuar con sus estudios.

Ancira Ford Scholarships Awarded to Local Youth
Roxie Correa, Luis de la Cruz, Mario Tijerina, and Juan Garza were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship by Ancira Eagle Pass Ford Mercury and Ford Motor Company. The Built Ford Tough Trucks FFA Scholarship Program is designed to recognize FFA membersí talents and accomplishments while encouraging their future academic achievements. Fueron Reconocidos los 20 mejores estudiantes de la generación 2009 que graduarán en Junio de las High School locales, el reconocimiento se realizó durante la celebración del desayuno comunitario de la Cámara de Comercio que tuvo como escenario el salon Los Espejos, durante la mañana del miércoles.
Estuvieron presentes autoridades escolares, oficiales públicos, miembros de la Cámara de Comercio, además de la presencia distinguida de los alumnos y sus familiares.

The annual event in which the community joins to honor the top students at both high schools can also be described as one of the most important events of the year. El Departamento del Sheriff Otorgará $10 Mil en Becas
El Sheriff del condado de Maverick, Tomas Herrera, declaró que este mes el departamento otorgará becas estudiantiles con un valor aproximado a los 10 mil dólares.
Comentó que estas becas se entregarán en colaboración con la compañía GEO que se encarga del funcionamiento de la nueva cárcel del condado.
Dijo que este es el segundo año que el departamento otorga becas y además en esta ocasión la cantidad es mayor.

Distrito Escolar Recibe Recursos para Pre-Kinder
El Superintendente del Distrito Escolar de Eagle Pass, Jesus Sanchez, anunció que recibió una notificación estatal donde le autorizaron recursos para poder poner en funcionamiento un pre-kinder en conjunto con la agencia de Servicio Comunitarios CSA.
Informó que de hecho la aplicación se hizo en conjunto con CSA y se tuvo una contestación positiva,
Comentó que se estima que se autorizaron recursos por aproximadamente medio millón de dólares.

Once in a blue moon: local student achieves one of highest honors in band
It’s not often that a band program can boast in having an All State band member, in fact it happens all too rarely. The All-State band is composed of band students from across Texas which have been auditioning since last Fall. The process itself begins during Summer band when each band member is given three to four musical pieces to rehearse and perfect, audition after audition the ranks begin to dwindle until there are only a few students left in each area.
