LADY MAVERICKS MAKE ALL-DISTRICT
Several C.C. Winn High School varsity softball players were recently selected for the All- District 29-5A team. Freshman Ronnie Valdez (third baseman) was named as Newcomer of the Year. Junior Krystal Contreras was voted as 29-5A’s Outstanding Pitcher.
Voted onto the first all-district team were Senior Norma Moreno (first base), Junior Dulce Vasquez (short- stop) and Aimee Ramirez (outfielder).

Ramírez makes state top ten again
C.C. Winn High School Senior Raul Ramirez finished seventh in the 800-meter run (with a time of 1:54.45) at the University Interscholastic League state track and field meet held in Austin this past Friday and Saturday. This is the third consecutive year Ramirez has placed in the top ten at state. He finished fourth at the state meet in 2009 and 2010.

Winn High School’s varsity baseball team won their second consecutive playoff (in team history) by eliminating Weslaco during their best-of-three area round series held in Laredo this past Friday and Saturday. The Mavericks won Game One 7-0 on Friday. C.C. Winn then lost Game Two (10-4) on Saturday before taking the series by seizing Game Three (9-0).

C.C. Winn (14-4) and Eagle Pass High School’s varsity base- ball teams met on the
field last Friday with the Eagles (12-6) coming out vic- torious 2-1. Friday’s game

C.C. Winn High School’s varsity soft- ball team locked up the second position in
District 29-5A after defeat- ing Laredo United South 5-3 this past Tuesday. The Lady Mavericks scored two runs in the second inning and three in the third while acquiring 11 hits and com- mitting three errors.

clinched its first playoff berth in team history and put some distance between themselves and their second place opponents following victories over Laredo LBJ and Alexander late last week.

Eagles Win in extra Innings
Eagle Pass High School’s varsity baseball team (in third place in District 29-5A with an 8-5 record) edged Laredo United South 6-5 in twelve innings on Tuesday. The Eagles jumped ahead 4- 0 in the first inning but United South knotted the game up by scoring a pair of runs in both the third and fifth innings. Both teams scored once more in the tenth frame and then EPHS tallied the game-winner in the bottom of the twelfth.
