Stallions Outlast Warriors in Shortened Game at Chittim

Lady Mavericks crush Cigarroa

C.C. Winn High School’s varsity softball team demolished Laredo Cigarroa 15-1 in five innings on Friday. The Lady Mavericks scored a run in the first inning, four in the second, three in the third and seven in the fourth. C.C. Winn amassed 18 hits and only committed a single error.

Unbeaten Lady Eagles still in first

Eagle Pass High School’s varsity softball team maintained its District 29-5A record a perfect 12-0 and stood in first place after beating Laredo United 6-1 on Friday. At the start of this week, EPHS was four games ahead of Laredo United South (8-4).
The Lady Eagles, however, know the value of avoiding complacency.

Mavericks holding on to first place

C.C. Winn High School’s varsity baseball team was on a roll at the end of last week after the Mavericks defeated Eagle Pass High School – for the first time in school history on Friday and then beat Del Rio on Saturday. C.C. Winn (9-1 and in first place in District 29-5A) shut out Eagle Pass 10-0 in five innings. The Mavericks scored three runs in the first inning, five in the second and two in the fifth.

Eagle Pass High School’s varsity soft- ball team held an unblemished league
record of 8-0 and stood atop of District 29-5A after squashing Del Rio (11-1) in five innings on Monday, Laredo Nixon (15-0) in three innings on Tuesday and Laredo Cigarroa (11-1) on Wednesday. The Lady Eagles fell behind early (1-0)
then busted the game wide open in the fifth inning.

Eagles win district opener
Eagle Pass High School’s varsity football team won their District 29-5A opener by defeating Laredo LBJ 21-14.
Jose Rodriguez hauled in a 25-yard pass from Tommy Galvan for a touchdown during the Eagles’ opening drive. Rodriguez threw a 30-yard scoring strike to Hector Gloria in the second quarter. Galvan connected with Wally Martinez on a 30-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
Head Coach Tom Gonzalez said winning the first conference game was a huge boost in momentum.

C.C. Winn High School’s varsity football team narrowly lost their District 29-5A opener to Del Rio 10-9 on Friday. Gilbert Salas kicked a 24-yard field goal in the opening quarter. Jesus Canales threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Christian Daniel in the fourth quarter.

Eagles C.C. team ranked ninth in state
Eagle Pass Cross Country Coach Juan Gonzalez woke up on Saturday to the news that his team had moved into the top ten in the entire state a few hours before they were to host the fourth annual Border Bash. The Eagles are now ranked ninth in the state by the Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas.

Mavericks hit the road during Week Zero

C.C. Winn High School’s varsity football team concluded their summer practices with a scrimmage against Uvalde on Friday.
“Overall, we saw great improvement from the week before when we scrimmaged San Antonio Southside to whom we lost 1-0,” Head Coach George Ruiz said. “Against Uvalde we got our running game going pretty good, our passing game - which had a couple of misfortunes against Southside - also looked a little bit better.”

Eagles mix it up in preseason football scrimmage
Eagle Pass High School’s varsity football team hit the road on Saturday and traveled down to Laredo where they locked horns with Harlingen South in their first scrimmage of the preseason. The Eagles clicked on all cylinders scoring almost at will while keeping Harlingen South out of the end zone.
