Groundbreaking for Cancer Treatment Center held Thurs.
Maverick County cancer patients will be able to breathe a sigh of relief when the opening of the Maverick County Hospital District Cancer Center where chemotherapy can and will be available in Eagle Pass.
The building will count on 3,500 square feet of space with 15 available chemo session lounge chairs at various stations will be available at one time as well as two private rooms for private chemotherapy sessions.

UMC Receives Grant for New Clinic
United Medical Centers has announced that they have received some funding assistance from the Federal Government to help construct a third Clinic in Maverick County, to be located on a 6 acre tract of land they purchased next to the new Border Patrol Station on El Indio Hwy. Construction of this 15,000 square foot facility is expected to start in the summer of 2012, and will have approximately 18 medical exam rooms, lab, and other ancillary departments to accommodate 5 or 6 medical providers. ....

City Council approves 3% raises across board
The Eagle Pass City Council approved a 3% wage increase for all cit employees at the regular meeting of the council on Tuesday.
Councilman Luis Sifuentes addressed the council, "These people haven't gotten a wage increase in three years and I think it's time we do so."
The council split 3-2 on the vote with Councilmen Davis and Cazares in dissension.
Councilman Billy Davis, "I am certainly in favor of giving the wage increase, however I want it to be fairer across the board."

Save him from drowning in Quemado ditch

Employees of TxDOT (The Texas Department of Public Safety) are initiating work on several Maverick County byways such as El Indio Highway, Hwy. 277 East, 277 North, Hwy. 57 and the Old Uvalde Road (FM 481).

Three minors were arrested during the early morning hours at Southwest Texas Junior College and were charged with destruction of property as well as for breaking the curfew.

Rollover on Hwy. 277 N.; Several injured
An incredible rollover wreck occurred on Hwy. 277 N. about 10 miles out of Eagle Pass, where a Yukon carrying six passengers not including the driver, rolled over and fell to the side of the road, and even though

Elevator to be installed at Public Library
The City of Eagle Pass is working on a project which will enable the library to have an elevator to access the different levels of the building - some of which have not been used in decades.

The Eagle Pass Public Library received a donation of an electronic apparatus called a CCTV in order to be used by people who may be visually impaired.
