EPPARD Basketball comes to a close with Shootout between the Eagles & Mustangs

Division III basketball came to a close on Saturday, February 4th with a slate of eight games being played at the Multi-Purpose Center.
The first game of the day had the wire-to-wire Mancha Mustangs against the Cerna Stallions. The Mustangs came away with a 38-23 win that sent them into the City Championship. Tony Flores led all scorers with 12 and Ricky Flores had 9 for the Mustangs. For the Stallions Kevin Ochoa had 12 and R. Rodriguez had 4.
In the second game the upstart HBG Bobcats came into the playoffs having only lost one game all season behind the tutelage of Martin Lara. In this game the Bobcats faced off against the Liberty Eagles and fell short in a hard fought 39 to 19 loss. Cal Roman led all scorers with 17 big points and Ricky Ramos had 4. Eric Rodriguez dropped in 8 and Alex Rosales had 4 in the defeat.
Then it was the Pink Divas15 and the Lady Mavericks 14 in a hotly contested playoff game which sent the Pink Divas to the City Championship. Diana Mallen scored 13 in the win and Annette Jimenez had 7 for the Lady Mavs.
The Nellie Mae Glass Angry Birds defeated the Graves Lady Tigers by a score of 33-13. Jackie Gonzalez scored 7 for the ‘Birds, Marisela Luna also had 7 for the Angry Birds and Bianca Camarillo also scored 7 in the loss for the Tigerettes.
The Bobcats stormed back in the third place game with a 22-13 win over the Stallions to take third place and finish the season with an 11-2 record. Eric Rodriguez led all scorers with 8 and JC Castilla had 6 for the 'Cats and Kevin Ochoa scored 7 in the loss.
Then it was the Lady Mavs 20, the Lady Tigers 5 in the third place game for Division III girls. Sarah Nieto had 6 as did Annette Jimenez and Daisy Rodriguez scored 4 for the Tigerettes.
In the City Championship, the Liberty Elementary Pink Divas came away with the title with an 18-13 win over the Glass Angry Birds.
