Cases of domestic violence rises with the advent of tax return season says Silvia Giron, of the Wintergarden Women's Shelter of Eagle Pass. These arguments stem from money management issues that go hand in hand with tax season.
She went on to mention that in January alone they saw almost 60 cases of domestic violence, both man to woman as well as woman to man as women are also known to physically abuse their husbands in certain cases.
Giron went on to add they are seeing situations of fights in homes due to the use or misuse of money received from income tax returns in most cases because the man had a plan to use the funds a certain way and the woman on the other hand had other plans to use the resources, and when an agreement cannot be reached, problems and discussions over this issue arise which can lead to physical aggression.
A large part of the time problems between couples arise due to a lack of communication.
Ms. Giron also said that in the Wintergarden Women's Shelter, which is located in the Nick Carr Center of the Pueblo Nuevo sector, is available to help people who suffer from domestic violence and to give them counseling in order to overcome these issues.
