Of auto theft ring; 4 pickups nearly stolen
The Eagle Pass Police Department has issued a warning to all citizens of a string of attempted auto thefts over the weekend. In particular, the thieves are focusing on recent model pickups of the double cab variety. Three of the four cases were in the parking lots of business establishments on Bibb St. and the other at the parking lot of Our Lady of Refuge Church on Ceylon.
Police Chief Juan Antonio Castañeda informed the News-Gram that the incidents occurred in a short lapse of time on Sunday evening. Castañeda commented that in two of these incidents the pick-ups were taken from these parking lots and found abandoned later in the parking lots of local hotels. No arrests have been made at this time.
In the other two related incidents, the vandals gained entry by breaking the windows of the vehicles but were unsuccessful in starting the vehicles attempting to do so by using the truck's ignition switch.
The EPPD warns residents that there is a gang of thieves who dedicate themselves to the theft of of motor vehicles and they may be planning other series of thefts as we speak.
Chief Castañeda asks that all Eagle Pass motorists take the necessary precautions to secure their vehicles at all times before these individuals strike again.
