Ramírez makes state top ten again

C.C. Winn High School Senior Raul Ramirez finished seventh in the 800-meter run (with a time of 1:54.45) at the University Interscholastic League state track and field meet held in Austin this past Friday and Saturday. This is the third consecutive year Ramirez has placed in the top ten at state. He finished fourth at the state meet in 2009 and 2010.
“I am very proud of him. Completing the 800-meter Run in 1:54.45 is a difficult mark to reach,” Head Coach Apolinar Garza said. “That is an incredible time in itself and Raul was a little disappointed but I still think he did an outstanding job, I
have no complaints.” Ramirez earned his third
consecutive state bid while winning his second straight Region IV title in the 800- meter Run (with a time of 1:57.61) at a meet held at Alamo Stadium in San Antonio May 2-3. Ramirez’s successful career is a result of his tireless work ethic, which Garza said is second to none.
“Raul is an icon when you talk about setting a stan- dard,” Garza said. “We are all going to miss him a whole bunch, I know I defi- nitely am. He really bonded with our mile-relay team this season and they ran a lot harder for him as well.”
