Lady Eagles make all-district team

Numerous Eagle Pass High School varsity softball players were recently selected for the All-District 29-5A team. Senior Myrna Alex Rodriguez was picked as the district’s Most Valuable Player. Junior Alexis Maldonado was picked as the district’s Outstanding
Catcher. Junior Rosa Bianca Velasquez was selected as Outstanding First Baseman. Sophomore Jessica Garcia
was named as Outstanding Second Baseman. Freshman Sandra Mendoza was selected as the district’s Outstanding Third Baseman. Senior Kasandra Jimenez was named as 29-5A’s Outstanding Outfielder.
Voted onto the first all-district team were Senior Brittany Hicks (outfielder) and Junior Elizabeth Montalvo (pitcher).
Selected for the second all- district team were Junior Analaura Perez (catcher) and Jessele Perez (outfielder).
“These girls did an out
standing job for us this year,” EPHS Head Coach Oscar Ruiz said. “Each of these girls played up to their personal highest level during the playoffs.”
Having so many Lady Eagles make the all-district team dignifies Ruiz’s program.
“This shows our district that our players are very capable of competing with anyone,” Ruiz said. “It also shows that Eagle Pass has a very good program and will continue doing so as long as we continue doing what is needed which is working and playing hard so that we can start advancing three or four rounds deep into the playoffs in the upcoming years.”
The Lady Eagles (District 29-5A champs at 18-0) are only losing three seniors, from a roster of eighteen girls, this season.
“Our returners are really going to have to step up next year into the roles being left by our graduating seniors,” Ruiz said. “As long as we as a team have a good attitude and work ethic then we should be alright next year.”
