The Lady Eagle varsity soccer team had six players recently select- ed for the All-District
29-5A team. Senior Gabriela Trevino
was picked for the first all- district list. Trevino played every position for EPHS this season and scored eleven goals. Senior Team Captain Evelyn Luna was selected for the second all-district roster. Luna rotated between defensive guard, midfielder and goal keeper this season. She also scored five goals
for the Lady Eagles. Luna also made the all-academic team with a 98 grade point average.
Receiving Honorable Mention was Senior Mariel Yebra who played midfield- er, forward and goal keeper for EPHS. Yebra also scored four goals this season and was a team captain.
Junior Alejandra Garcia (midfielder, defensive guard) also received Honorable Mention. Garcia was the Lady Eagles’ best and most important defender this sea- son, usually assigned to guard opponents’ best play-

Senior Forward Veronica Moreno was selected for the all-academic team. Moreno scored four goals this season and has a 95 grade point average.

“Typically you want to keep a player in one or two positions, but we had obsta- cles this season like our starting goalie quitting and our backup not coming out for the team,” Garcia said. “So I had to depend on some of these girls to step in and play goalie sometimes.”
EPHS’s all-district play- ers’ accomplishments are even more noteworthy when you consider that there are no local youth soccer leagues.
“Here in Eagles Pass we do not have a developmental soccer league,” Garcia said. “So our girls begin playing organized soccer as fresh- men, so they are very green.”
Garcia said his team’s 4- 12-2 District 29-5A record was no indication as to how
competitive the Lady Eagles really were.
