The Maverick County Detention Center recently received over 200 federal inmates, bringing it that much closer to full capacity. Of the 220 arrivals, 199 were male offenders and 21 were female offenders. It took the coordinated efforts of several local and federal surrounding law enforcement agencies to assist in the transportation of the inmates. Assisting the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department were officers of the Val Verde, Kinney and Del Rio Sheriff’s Departments. The additional inmates are expected to benefit the county financially, according to the Sheriff’s Department. “The entire transfer of inmates to the Maverick County Detention Center was a complete success. We are currently near capacity at the Maverick County Detention Center. This expansion of inmates will be beneficial to the Maverick County economy,” stated Sheriff Herrera.
