Landfill Inaugurated but Still No Takers

Not having any potential clients did little to deter the celebration of Maverick County’s newest venture. After fifteen years of planning , the Maverick County Landfill officially opened for business today paving the way for a potential economic comeback for the often bankrupt County. The landfill will not begin operating until a half a million dollar bond is paid according to officials, the same officials have assured us that monies needed to open the facility will be paid this week.

The City of Eagle Pass has yet to finalize a deal with the Landfill Authority for the use of the facility but once that deal is reached it is expected that the city will see savings in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. The City Council last authorized the City Manger to continue negotiations with the Landfill Authority on August 31st but has of yet not reached an accord.

The inauguration was attended by high ranking dignitaries such as Mayor Cantu, County Judge Aranda, Commissioner Maldonado and the master mind of the project itself Commissioner Rudy Heredia among others. Also in attendance were the C.C. Winn mariachi and the AFJROTC which contributed to the celebration.

It is still unclear how much the venture will produce for the county but hopeful officials are looking for a continued partnership between the city and county.
