The Eagle Pass Eagles played host in the first round of the Division 2 5A playoffs against the McAllen Bulldogs at the Laredo SAC Field and brought home a victory, scoring 28 points to the Bulldogs 21. The Eagles with this win continue to advance in the play-off series and will be playing host to Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North High next Friday, November 20th at Eagle Stadium.
The Eagles and the Bulldogs were an even match that was worthy of their play-off standings. They held each other back with everything they had in them to what was a show of Defensive and Offensive might. The third player in this competition, the referees that officiated the game, were as big a player in tonight’s game as were the boys who worked the ball. Some calls confused the players, the coaches and those at home listening to the game.
In the first quarter the referees drew some flags for penalties and made some calls that not only wasted time but confused those attending in the audience. They moved the ball back and forth on the field, they argued amongst themselves and even raised some over-emotional concern from coaches on both sides of the field. After the boys were allowed to go back to playing football, things took a life of their own.
