asking for a $25,000 increase in pay, this would bring his take home pay to $75,000 making him one of the highest paid employees in the county. As if this was not insulting enough to tax payers the County will be embarking on added debt in the form of five million dollars in certificates of obligation. The court will meet this Monday to discuss the possible added debt to its tax payers. The five million dollars would go to fulfilling many of the promises made to constituents during previous campaigns, improving a deteriorating infrastructure and repairing dilapidated county buildings. With a clear disregard for fiscal responsibility, the Maverick County Commissioners Court continues its forward march on further debt, added loans and lackluster investments while the City of Eagle Pass faces the grim challenge of downsizing and layoffs.
It has also been reported that certain city employees, feeling the heat of their possible dismissals, have contacted council members in an effort to secure their employment. Mayor Foster has stated that although he has not been personally contacted by any city employee he has heard the rumors and assured this publication that those individuals who are performing their job duties should not fear any layoffs. The City of Eagle Pass however, is running out of time and out of money and unlike the County, which continues the fleecing of its constituents, will have to make some highly unpopular decisions.
