It’s not often that a band program can boast in having an All State band member, in fact it happens all too rarely. The All-State band is composed of band students from across Texas which have been auditioning since last Fall. The process itself begins during Summer band when each band member is given three to four musical pieces to rehearse and perfect, audition after audition the ranks begin to dwindle until there are only a few students left in each area. After months of dedicated practice, Eagle Pass High School senior Josue Mora was recently awarded a seat in the coveted All- State band, the Holy Grail for band students. Josue Mora is the first All-State band member in Eagle Pass in four years and will travel with his band directors to the Texas Music Education Association convention in early February. Josue will spend three days rehearsing with the best and the brightest students in Texas, each and every one giving their all toward a final performance for thousands of spectators at the Lila Cockrell theatre in San Antonio, Texas. Josue’s band directors (Mr. Solis, Mr. Munoz, Mr. Cavasos and Ms. Mesa) are all too aware of the honor bestowed on their student, after all having an All State band member happens “once in a blue moon.”
