Patricia Rae stars along side Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton in the much anticipated Lionsgate ensemble comedy The Big Wedding due in theatres April 26, 2013. Rae’s character Madonna Soto is the catalyst for the humorous charade that is the movies premise. “I am twice blessed on this film in working with a fantastic cast and on a movie with such heart and humor.” Rae is best remembered for her iconic role as Carla, the surrogate mother in the shattering HBO movie Maria Full of Grace. She also appeared in the cult classics Swim Fan and Nightstalker.
On television Rae recurred on Chuck as the infamous Bolonia Grimes and has guest starred on Touch, Blue Bloods, The Mentalist, The Closer, The Chicago Code, Life, all franchises of Law and Order, and many more. She received her SAG card on her first television job ever, Miami Vice.
Born in Manhattan and raised in Queens, New York, Rae is the daughter of first generation Colombian parents. As a young child Rae knew she wanted to be an entertainer and was popular for her backyard productions of the Johnny Carson Show where she took on ALL the roles: Johnny, celebrity guests, and musical talent. It was when she moved to Homestead, Florida at the age of 14 that Rae joined her first acting troop through her high school. Although she excelled within the troop, Rae felt discouraged because most of the “leading lady” roles were given to her fairer counterparts. This changed when the troop performed “West Side Story” and Rae was given the leading role of Anita.
After graduating high school Rae attended Flagler College to study acting. Again she encountered the problem of productions not implementing diversity casting. Feeling stifled in Florida, Rae moved back to New York and was accepted into the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, where her idol Marilyn Monroe studied. While in New York Rae performed with the 13th Street Repertory Theatre, INTAR Lab, and in the long running off-off Broadway show Line. She also found success as the spokesperson in the Spanish market commercials as the Ogilvie Home Perm Girl. Feeling Los Angeles was calling for her, Rae moved to California with auditions already in her pocket. Shortly after the move she booked the feature Maria Full of Grace, and she continues to work in both Los Angeles and New York.
Rae has a magnetic personality, a contagious laugh, and a sense of humor that never lacks color. She strives to inspire those around her, namely through her experiences and yoga practice, even dubbing her own particular brand “Menopause Yoga”. She also developed yoga methods to aid those suffering from scoliosis, like her daughter Sage. Rae enjoys painting, interior design, and performing with the Elephant Theatre in Los Angeles. She is featured in the coffee table book “Celebrity Scarves 2” where she knit a scarf for her beloved Westie Roxy.
