A local teen has been selected to attend a special summer school for future leaders and has very little time to raise $5,000 so she can get there. Sofia Casas, a 15 year old sophomore at C.C. Winn High School, found out last week that she has been selected to attend the JSA Summer School at Princeton University, in Newark, NJ. But she has very little time to raise the money to pay her tuition, room, board, travel, and other expenses. While her family is trying to collect the money to send her, Sofia must raise most of the balance. So, this local high school leader is hitting the local service club circuit, and seeking any other financial support she can get. Anyone wishing to make an individual sponsorship to help Sofia can send a check to: Micha Perry, The Junior Statesmen Summer School, 800 S Claremont St, Suite 202, San Mateo, CA 94402 or visit her website at www.stayclassy.org/SofiaCasas. Checks are to be made payable to the Junior Statesmen Foundation and include a note that Sofia Casas is the intended beneficiary. The 69th annual session of the Junior Statesmen Summer School will be held from July 7-28th. While there, students take college-level courses in American Government and Speech. They also participate in nightly student debates of controversial public policy issues in a Congressional Workshop. Highlighting the month-long session will be frequent meetings with a high-level group of leaders from government, business and the media. This nonpartisan speakers program gives future leaders a chance to share ideas with today's political powerbrokers. Sofia hopes to study law and politics in college. Sofia Casas was accepted into this prestigious program because of her outstanding academic record and potential for leadership. Sofia is not only a good student, she is also active in extra-curricular and community activities.
